Welcome to Double 8 Alpaca & Llama Ranch
Double 8 Alpaca Ranch is located in Purcellville, VA, conveniently within an hour of Washington DC, Richmond, VA and Baltimore, MD. This is the home of Doug & Bonnie Kittrell -- as well as some of the finest alpacas in the US specializing in dark colors, especially black.
We personally care for our herd daily and manage our elite breeding program. Our goal is to breed healthy alpacas with excellent conformation and fleece characteristics (fine, crimp, staple length, bright, volume/density). Our alpacas are selected based on genetics, hands-on fleece trait evaluation, estimated progeny differences, and laserscan fiber analysis.
Our farm operates as a true closed-loop system, raising our own alpacas and stewarding them with a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible land management. From our herd, we create two connected product lines: premium alpaca fiber goods and all-natural alpaca wool pellets for soil health.
We sustainably harvest our alpaca fiber and offer customer favorites including hats, socks, gloves, scarves, insoles, and natural and hand-dyed alpaca yarn. Each product reflects intentional sourcing, humane animal care, and exceptional warmth and durability.
What truly sets us apart is transparency and education. Customers can visit our farm, meet the alpacas, and see exactly where their fiber products and garden inputs originate. Every purchase supports local agriculture, soil health, and a small family farm committed to sustainable, full-circle farming practices.
We are committed to the alpaca industry as a whole. Bonnie is the AOA Youth committee chair, and she also serves on the MAPACA and VAOBA committees. As members of the New Jersey Alpaca Community (NJAC), we initiated and helped manage the first and very successful AOBA certified NJAC (New Jersey Alpaca Classic) level 3 alpaca show in 2009. We are current members of AOA, MAPACA, PAOBA and VAOBA! We are an AOA Youth Mentor farm with a competitive youth club. Double 8 also mentors students pursuing a veterinary, textile, fashion design, or agricultural degree. Education, responsibility, and confidence-building are at the heart of our mentor program.
We offer our beautiful natural yarn grown by our own beautiful herd for sale at our local farmers market in Leesburg and ashburn, VA. In addition to yarn, we have scrumptious raw fleece for the hand spinner. We also have alpaca socks, gloves, hats, sweaters, scarves, alpaca loofah soaps, teddy bears and alpaca figurines that would make a beautiful gift for any occasion!
Call us today to discuss alpacas or schedule a farm tour and let us show you how we have built an exciting lifestyle based on top quality alpacas, fair prices, education, and superior support.
Sincerely,
Doug & Bonnie Kittrell
