Welcome to Double 8 Alpaca & Llama Ranch
Double 8 Alpaca & Llama Ranch is located in Hillsboro, VA, conveniently within an hour of Washington DC, Richmond, VA and Baltimore, MD. This is the home of Doug & Bonnie Kittrell, as well as some of the finest alpacas & llamas in the US.
We personally care for our herd daily and manage our elite breeding program. Our goal is to breed healthy alpacas with sound conformation and award winning fleece characteristics. Several of our alpacas are AOA Highpoint winners in fleece, including the AOA National Fleece Show! Our breeding stock is selected based on genetics, hands-on fleece trait evaluation, estimated progeny differences, and laserscan fiber analysis.
Our llama breeding program is focused on producing superior pack llamas with strong, well-balanced frames, calm and willing dispositions, and the athleticism needed to excel on the trail. We carefully breed for animals that are both functional and eye-catching, making them dependable partners and standout performers. Our program is anchored by exceptional herd sires, including LUA Bravado’s Spiritt, a medium wool 12-time SD Champion known for his consistency and quality, and MSF Southern Gentleman, a 9-time SD Champion Suri llama with a powerful macho frame and exquisite draping locks.. Our Classic/Pack llama herd sires further strengthen the program: Jordan’s McKee, a 4-time SD Champion and proven strong, athletic pack llama on the trail, and our exciting recent addition, HOLR Jagger, an impressive 36-time Champion. Together, these males represent the strength, style, temperament, and performance we are committed to passing on to the next generation.
Our farm operates as a true closed-loop system, raising our own alpacas and stewarding them with a strong commitment to sustainability and responsible land management. From our herd, we create two connected product lines: premium alpaca fiber goods and all-natural alpaca wool pellets for soil health.
We sustainably harvest our alpaca fiber and offer customer favorites including hats, socks, gloves, scarves, insoles, and natural and hand-dyed alpaca yarn. Each product reflects intentional sourcing, humane animal care, and exceptional warmth and durability.
What truly sets us apart is transparency and education. Every alpaca & Llama is halter trained and examined every 30 days. Customers can visit our farm, meet the alpacas, and see exactly where their fiber products and garden inputs originate. Every purchase supports local agriculture, soil health, and a small family farm committed to sustainable, full-circle farming practices.
We are committed to the alpaca industry as a whole. Bonnie serves on many committees. She is the AOA Youth committee chair. She serves on the MAPACA, PAOBA, & VAOBA committees and ILR Fiber committees. Proud members of AOA, MAPACA, PAOBA and VAOBA, ILR, ALSA, GALA! We are an AOA Youth Mentor farm with a competitive youth club. Double 8 also mentors students pursuing a veterinarian degree.
