This gorgeous 3 ply sport is 70% Suri, 20% Merino, and 10% Sari silk.

Suri are the alpacas with “dreadlocks!”

The silk adds a pop of color to what were a pair of white and light fawn Suri fleeces, which we mixed together, and the merino adds a bit of spring; Suri behaves more like straight hair and can be a little fiddly as a result, so the merino makes it a little easier to handle. Suri is traditionally used for outerwear, like spectacular coats, and this fun and beautiful pink yarn would make a lovely scarf or shawl with a beautiful sheen. I’d also consider it for a hat or even fingerless gloves. Suri generally does not lend itself well to making sweaters as it’s so drapey due to its inherent structure (again, think long straight hair), although the merino may make up for that tendency.

This yarn is a limited edition as, sadly, the light fawn Suri, by name of Cairo, passed away in April 2024 of old age. He was the best boy, winning many performance awards for various youth during his time with us as well as a number of halter and fleece championships, including Best Lock and Best Luster, for his breeder. We miss Cairo very much, but his fleece will live on in lifetime handmade garments.

The second alpaca, the white one, is our boy Spirit. A rescue, he has a lifetime home here and produces a beautiful silky and heavy fleece. It is unfortunate that we can’t trace anything about him as his fleece is beautiful!
